Use channels in Chat to create smaller team conversations inside Team Chat.
Quick steps
Open a team and select Chat.
Select the channel control at the top of the page.
Use Team Chat for the main team conversation.
Open a joined channel or select Join for an available channel.
If available, select New channel or Create channel to start a new channel.
Team Chat vs channels
Team Chat is the default conversation for everyone on the team.
Channels are separate conversations for smaller groups or specific topics.
Examples:
coaches planning a practice
team volunteers coordinating logistics
a smaller planning group inside the team
Open or join a channel
In the channel picker, you may see:
Channels

Team Chat

Join
Invite-only
Use this view to:
switch back to Team Chat
open a joined channel
join an open available channel
Some channels are Invite-only. Those are not open to everyone.
Create a channel
If channel creation is available, select New channel or Create channel.
You may then see:

Invitation only

Create Channel
If Invitation only is enabled, only invited members can see and join that channel.
A channel name is required before you can create it.
Channel settings
If you have channel-level authority, you may see:
Manage channel
Channel settings
Channel name
Description
Channel access
Invitation only
Cancel
Save
Use Manage channel to update the channel name, description, or access.
Channel members
If available, select Channel members to review who is in the channel.
You may see sections such as:
Owner
Admins
Members
You may also see actions such as:
Add
Add members
Make owner
Make admin
Remove member
Direct message
These actions are permission-based and are not available to every coach.
Leave channel
If you are a member of a channel, you may see:
Leave channel
This applies to channels, not Team Chat.
Important notes
Team Chat is the default team-wide conversation.
Not every coach will have the same channel permissions.
Create channel may be visible, but it should be treated as conditional.
Manage channel and member-management actions are channel-owner/admin actions.
